Henry Katleman’s birthday on Friday, September 6th was made even more special with the appearance of three of his favorite River Way counselors. Henry was so excited to see Papa, Gibbo and Dunk, along with some other campers that were attending the party as well. The night consisted of the counselors and campers reuniting and swapping stories about the amazing summer they all just had together. Henry and his twin sister, Delila, had an amazing 14th birthday. We’re so happy we could be there to celebrate with them and keep camp alive throughout the year.
The ground breaking for River Way Ranch Camp’s new housing facility officially began on the 23rd of January. It will be a spacious 11,500 square foot facility with 14 rooms and can house up to 140 campers! These new rooms are bigger than the largest rooms we currently offer on our entire property. This amazing building comes complete with its’ own mini-recreation center and will help us house the Senior Boys Division for the summer of 2013.
You can see here members of our full-time staff hard at work posing with the bulldozer to begin construction. Also present at the ground breaking were members of the Oken family, including the two brothers, Larry and Roy, with the third generation daughters, Kalene, Carrie and Lacey, all active in the family business.
Stay tuned for updates and a time lapse video that will show our newest facility going from dirt to completion!

River Way, meet Summie!
Summie will be joining us for her first time this summer all the way from England.
Summie just got back from a two-month volunteer trip in Mozambique, Africa.
She taught at the Escholina de Boa Esperanca preschool every morning, and taught children aged 2-5. Two afternoons a week, she taught adults of all ages at ‘Edson’s English’. Some of the adults walked for over an hour just to get to class! Summie was paired with a 14 year old girl, Amalia, and they met every Saturday morning for one-on-one sessions.
After two months, it was sad for Summie to leave, but she’s eager to get to River Way to meet YOU and join the River Way Family!
Thanks for sharing your travels with us Summie! See you soon!
